Our Medicine

Health systems across the United States face significant, complex challenges including: lack of community trust, increasing health inequities, competition, and numerous urgent – often conflicting – priorities. The solutions to these challenges live within the stories of the people each health entity serves.

Our Medicine Consulting is a leading expert in designing and implementing storytelling interventions for health systems – including hospitals, foundations, departments of public health, non profits, community health centers, and national departments of public health. I work with health organizations to embed a culture of storytelling, humanize data, and highlight community solutions to national health equity disparities.

Our Medicine is founded on the knowledge that policy change is downstream of narrative change. When communities and organizations are given a platform to tell their stories, change is inevitable. Health data has brought us significant improvements in human health. However, it is storytelling and listening that will deliver our communities to equitable, culturally competent, trusted healthcare. Human beings are innately wired to empathize with stories, and it is this empathy that will dissolve health disparities.

My work with past clients has led to both nation-wide and organization-level storytelling initiatives that foster empathy, create understanding, and guide life saving, systemic changes. This work can be over the course of a few hours, days, weeks, or months.

Our work together can include:

  • Organization and/or team-wide storytelling workshops

  • Organizational strategy, planning, and analysis

  • Storytelling town halls

  • Organizational reports

  • Planning and implementing short-term and long-term storytelling initiatives

  • Storytelling for fundraising and/or marketing
